How about a fresh take on a classic? Sport watches, including chronographs, typically come with black dials, but today we’re diving into the most popular and best-selling chronographs with a fairer complexion. While a white dial might seem like a small change, it can dramatically alter a watch’s personality. Black dials offer a certain level of visual stealth, but white dials provide better readability, especially in low-light conditions. For the best of both worlds, we’ve also included a few panda dial versions, blending light and dark for a yin-and-yang effect.
The watches on this list range in price from under $500 to over $20,000. We’ve got modern classics that debuted nearly a decade ago, along with watches that are fresh to market. Each reflects the brand’s values and offers a unique spin on this growing category. Keep reading to see if your favorites made the list.
1. Rolex Daytona 116500LN
The number one best-selling white dial chronograph on Chrono24 also happens to be the best-selling Rolex Daytona on the site. The 116500LN is not the first Daytona with a ceramic bezel; that honor goes to the rose gold (AKA “Everose”) 116515LN, which debuted in 2011. Fans had to wait another five years to see a steel-and-ceramic combo, with Rolex releasing the Daytona 116500LN in 2016. While it’s easy to expect the classic black dial to be the top seller for a tool watch, the white dial actually takes the crown (sorry, bad pun).
In 2023, Rolex released an updated version, the 126500LN, featuring a new movement and subtle design tweaks like thinner hands, subdial rings, and reshaped lugs. However, the latest reference has yet to match the previous generation in sales, and for many, the 116500LN remains the grail watch of choice.
2. Zenith Chronomaster Sport 03.3100.3600/69.M3100
Rolex famously borrowed Zenith’s mechanical DNA, using the latter’s automatic El Primero chronograph caliber in what are now known as “Zenith” Daytonas. But now the tables have turned, with Zenith borrowing from Rolex’s design DNA for their Chronomaster Sport 03.3100.3600/69.M3100, most notably in the Oyster-style bracelet and black ceramic bezel. However, the Chronomaster Sport stays true to Zenith’s heritage with signature El Primero touches like the tri-color subdials, a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock, and star motifs throughout the watch.
The white dial Chronomaster Sport is quickly catching up to the Daytona in terms of sales on Chrono24. This model offers a stealthier take on the steel-and-ceramic chronograph, combining the added functionality of an automatic movement and date complication. It’s a combination that’s driving its growing success on the secondary market.
3. Tudor Black Bay Chrono 79360N-0002
Some people hesitate to buy a chronograph, fearing it won’t be tough enough due to the complexity of its moving parts or limited water resistance. However, the Tudor Black Bay Chrono 79360N-0002 puts those concerns to rest. Tudor has built a reputation for offering Rolex-level build quality at a more approachable price, with greater market availability. The Black Bay Chrono reinforces that reputation by boasting 200m of water resistance, a screw-down crown and pushers, and a COSC-certified movement.
While smaller, thinner watches can feel delicate, the Tudor is anything but. Known for its robustness, this watch features a 41mm case that’s 14.4mm thick with a 22mm lug width—giving it substantial wrist presence. Simply put, it’s a tool watch that feels like a tool watch.
The pink dial Black Bay Chrono caused a stir this summer, and the new blue dial variation continues to generate excitement, though in a more subdued package. Still, the white dial remains the most commonly found and frequently purchased variation.
4. Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional White 310.30.42.50.04.001
Despite only being on the market for a few months, the white dial Omega Speedmaster 310.30.42.50.04.001 has already broken into the top five in this category.
Longtime Speedy fans know this isn’t the first white dial Speedmaster, as there have been several limited and special editions over the years. However, this is the first standard-issue white dial Speedmaster, and the high demand reflects how highly anticipated it was.
Nicknamed the “Daniel Craig” after the James Bond star was seen wearing it in November 2023, this new release showcases a PR strategy that brands are increasingly relying on: combining brand ambassadorships with the thrill of celebrity wrist-checks. Time will tell if the “Daniel Craig” nickname sticks, as Craig is more closely associated with the Omega Seamaster 300M.
Seeing it in person, the white lacquered dial gives the watch a precious feel thanks to the soft glow of the finish and the depth created by the recessed subdials. A small change, but sometimes that’s all it takes to breathe new life into a classic.
5. Seiko Prospex Solar Speedtimer SSC813P1/SBDL085
As always, Seiko delivers incredible value for the money. The solar-powered Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SBDL085 offers classic chronograph design and a worry-free, solar-powered movement that’s accurate to +/- 15 seconds per month—all for under $500 on Chrono24.
With a 39mm case, lug-to-lug measurement just under 46mm, and a thickness of just over 13mm, the watch fits comfortably on most wrists. Its solar-powered caliber, scratch-resistant ceramic bezel, and 100m water resistance make it a great option for those who want a reliable, easy-to-wear timepiece at a stress-free price.
